Learn About Our Project:
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR BACKERS! YOU MADE THIS CAMPAIGN AN EPIC SUCCESS!
Now we're going into full production for Thunderstone Quest so we can rush it out to you as quickly as we can. Stand by for an email describing how to use the Pledge Manager (expect this email in 6 to 8 weeks).
This was the Kickstarter for Thunderstone Quest, Alderac Entertainment Group's new version of the best-selling deckbuilding game designed by Mike Elliott!
For those of you counting cards for sleeves with A Grand Finale fully unlocked and added to both Rewards you will need 1,500 Premium Sleeves (3 Packs) for the Champion Reward and 1,000 Premium Sleeves (2 Packs) for the Adventurer Reward. Add +500 more Premium Sleeves (1 Pack) if you want to sleeve the Epic Add-On.
You have two options to back this Kickstarter - the Adventurer Pledge or the Champion Pledge. The Adventurer Pledge is the standard game with everything you need to play including two Quests. The Champion Pledge contains everything in the Adventurer Pledge plus two more Quests, and a Premium Box.
All unlocked Stretch Goals are included in both Pledge Levels.
Thunderstone is one of the most successful games AEG has ever published. Our team has been talking about the next stage in its evolution for quite some time. When we brainstormed ideas for the next version of the game it was clear that we had a lot of wide open design space to transform the Dungeon system into something really special.
The new Quest system gives us the ability to offer you a modular adventuring experience so that the game is always fresh and challenging. We incorporated lots of player feedback about other game systems including weight and light. And we worked to make the climax of the game dramatic and exciting for every player, every game.
We are Kickstarting Thunderstone Quest so that we can bring you a super-sized version of Thunderstone with lots of upgraded components and extra content. The more we raise on this campaign the more awesome the Rewards will be!
Both Rewards for Thunderstone Quest include the standard game components you need to play. The basic game boards, tokens, heroic figures, cards, and dice.
The major innovation for Thunderstone Quest is ... Quests! Each Quest consists of a selection of dungeon tiles and monster cards that create an engaging storyline. Each Quest includes rules for selecting Village and Dungeon cards to create a variety of Adventures. After you've mastered each Quest you use random setups of Quest cards to create new Dungeons and Villages - build your own Quests and Adventures!
There are 5 Quests in this campaign. The 5 Quests each consist of approximately 243 cards each (cards used in play, plus divider cards, and cards used as tokens). You'll get two Quests with the Adventurer Reward, and four Quests with the Champion Reward. We are currently unlocking Stretch Goals for A Grand Finale, the 5th Quest in this Campaign, which will be added to all Rewards as Stretch Goals are unlocked!
We have had a lot of questions about co-op or solo play rules. Our developers have great ideas for these modes of play but they won't start working on them until after work is finalized on the regular competitive rules. We don't have an ETA on when we will have co-op or solo play rules ready but we'll make them available as soon as they're ready.
Our friends at Man vs. Meeple did a First Look video about Thunderstone Quest. Click the video to see their review!
GET THE PRINT & PLAY RULES NOW!
We are making available a First Look Print & Play for Thunderstone Quest. Click this link to access the Drop Box folder containing the files.
The Print & Play is not final, not finalized, subject to change, and not complete. It represents enough of the Thunderstone Quest rules, cards and components to let you play the game, see how the game differs from classic Thunderstone and Thunderstone Advance, and get a sense for the kinds of components we'll be producing for the Kickstarter Rewards.
There are 6 files in this folder. You will need to download each file, and print it out then cut & prepare the components as necessary to play.
Because a significant amount of questions and answers about rules could clog the Comments channel and make it hard for us to monitor it for questions about the Campaign, we ask that you please take questions about the Print & Play rules to our Facebook Page where we'll be able to more effectively answer them. If you post rules questions to the Comment thread they won't be answered. We'd appreciate it if you would "Like" our Facebook Page while you're there!
We hope you have as much fun playing Thunderstone Quest as we have had making it!
Last week at the AEG Summit John Zinser and Mark Wootton hosted a How to Play Thunderstone Quest session that was recorded. It's a little rough but we are able to present it for you now!
Thunderstone Quest is a deckbuilding game where 2-4 players compete to see who can score the most victory points when the game ends. In deckbuilding games your objective is to try to assemble the best possible deck to achieve the play strategy you prefer based on the options that are assembled for each game, and the random challenges you'll need to overcome.
Each player's deck represents a party of stalwart adventurers who will face and defeat the challenges of the Dungeon and will return to the Town to recover and re-equip.
On each turn you use your deck to generate a hand of cards, and you take actions based on the cards you drew. Sometimes you'll be in the Village buying new cards and using your resources. Sometimes you'll be in the Dungeon fighting monsters. And sometimes you'll do a little bit of both!
This new version of Thunderstone enhances the Dungeon mechanic introduced in classic Thunderstone. In Thunderstone Quest you'll be playing an Adventure which is comprised of a set of Dungeon tiles and a selection of monsters, treasures, and challenges that are themed to that Dungeon. You'll get the sense of a dramatic campaign as you grow stronger and finally confront the Guardian.
Depending on which cards you buy and which adversaries you defeat you will earn victory points. After the Guardian encounter is over, the player with the most victory points is the winner!
The game is designed for 2 to 4 people to play and it takes about 90 minutes to complete an Adventure.
Thunderstone Quest uses a lot of the rules from previous versions of Thunderstone but the cards from previous versions are not compatible.
We have completed this Dungeon! New Stretch Goals will be revealed in the Grand Finale Stretch Goal graphic at the top of the Campaign page.
Our 1st Add-On is a special set of over 200 cards that supports Epic-style play of Thunderstone Quest.
The purpose of this Add-On is purely convenience. There is no content in the Epic Add-On that isn't already in the Champion Reward. The Epic Add-On will contain all the cards from the Champion Pledge and there is only one Epic Add-On so if you are an Adventurer backer and you want this Add-On you will get the same package the Champion backers get.
There are extensive answers about Epic Thunderstone and this Add-On in the FAQ. Please check to see if your question has already been answered before asking in the Comment thread.
Epic Thunderstone is a popular way to play created by players of Classic Thunderstone. In Epic Thunderstone you build a Village and a Dungeon draw pile using one of each of all your cards instead of playing with a pre-selected tableau. It's a way to see and use more of your card collection. Every game will be different.
Rules for Epic Thunderstone will be included in the main rulebook.
This Add-On is a pre-built Epic Thunderstone deck ready for play. You won't have to subtract cards from your main play set to play Epic Thunderstone.
You'll need a full copy of Thunderstone Quest to play the Epic variant since there are cards, boards, tokens and other resources in the main game that are required to play Epic Thunderstone.
As Stretch Goals are hit they'll also be supported in the Epic Add-On so you'll be able to play the Epic version with all the cards in the campaign!
Our 2nd Add-On are packs of Premium Sleeves. These Sleeves use the same plastic we used in the Mystic Vale sleeves.
The Sleeves are 66x91mm, 0.1mil and will fit Thunderstone Quest cards and cards that are the same size as Magic: The Gathering cards.
We are providing them in packs of 500 Sleeves for $15 per pack. You can order as many packs as you wish but you must be at least an Adventurer Level Backer.
To sleeve every playable card in the Champion Reward and the Epic Add-On you would need 4 packs (2,000 Sleeves). You need 2 packs (1,000 Sleeves) for the Adventurer Reward.
The Champion Premium Box will be designed to hold the cards in sleeves.
We've designed our logistics system to provide the lowest possible cost for delivery of your Rewards!
We will be charging shipping after the Kickstarter concludes based on the actual costs incurred to ship from the closest distribution center to your delivery address.
We will determine this cost and bill you via our pledge manager after the campaign ends. Shipping costs vary widely based on where you will receive your reward and a one-size-fits-all price just isn't reasonable.
We will ship your rewards at our cost to our international distribution centers. Based on your delivery address we will either ship to you from our hub in the EU, in China, in Canada, in Australia or from the USA (USA and the rest of the world).
The following chart are estimates for shipping a Champion game package. Keep in mind these are just estimates, and costs may rise based on weight increases from unlocked stretch goals and Add-Ons.
- USA: $10-$15 to most states. $30 to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico
- CANADA: $10-$20 to most cities
- LATIN AMERICA: $50-$60 to most countries (except Brazil)

Unfortunately, different import laws and customs from some specific countries have made it impossible for AEG to ship games to them.
WE DO NOT SHIP TO: Brazil, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan.
AEG is committed to helping our brick & mortar partners succeed with Thunderstone Quest.
