Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Does it have all-new art?

Most of the art is new. If we re-use old art it will not constitute a meaningful number of pieces.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Are the cards all-new or reprints?

All of the cards are new.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Will it be compatible with Thunderstone and/or Thunderstone Advance?

No. Thunderstone Quest is a new game and is not backwards compatible.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

What is mechanically different between this edition and Thunderstone Advance?

We have refined the idea of “the dungeon” to create an experience more like a classic dungeon crawl adventure. Dungeons in Thunderstone Quest are now more like stories and less abstract.

Some (but not all) additional changes:

  • Monsters do not go into player decks
  • Dungeon rooms are tile based and can be different
  • Light is an exploration factor now, not an arithmetic factor
  • XPs are also VPs
Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Will it still have plastic Thunderstone tokens?

No. In Thunderstone Quest we’re not using plastic tokens.

Last updated: March 17, 2017 11:38

When will I get the game?

The scheduled release date is in 2018 but we are hopeful we can deliver early.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

How much of this did Mike Elliott design?

Mike created Thunderstone and Thunderstone Quest is the third version of his game. His design remains the heart & soul of the game.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Is shipping included?

No, shipping will be additional.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Will you ship “EU Friendly”?

Yes, our intention is to use the same kind of EU Friendly shipping policies that other successful Kickstarters use.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Is VAT included?

We will ship to EU addresses from an EU depot. If for some reason your locality requires you to pay a tax or fee to receive such shipments those costs must be paid by you. We cannot guarantee that there will be no such cost but we plan to use a shipment system similar to that used by most successful EU friendly Kickstarters so if you have in the past received such packages without extra costs you should receive ours without those costs too.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 18:00

How much will the game weigh?

We won’t know until the campaign is complete and we have finalized stretch goals and add ons.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

How many people can play the game out of the box?

Four

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Can people play the game co-operatively, or is it only competitively?

We have plans to write co-op and solo play rules for the game but we won’t begin work on them until after we’ve finished the rules for normal competitive play.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

I want to order two or more copies of the game and pay once for shipping. Can I do that?

Our pledge manager will allow you to add multiple copies of the game to your order and shipping for the whole package will be calculated at checkout.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Will I be able to buy Thunderstone Quest after the Kickstarter ends?

Retailers in the Kick It Here program will be selling the Champion Reward in their stores for a limited time.

After the Kickstarter Rewards are delivered we expect to make a smaller, less complex Thunderstone Quest Starter Set widely available for new players, and we expect to release expansions to the base game on a regular schedule.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:05

Will “Kickstarter Exclusive” material ever be sold again?

No. We may create alternate art versions of some cards and components in Kickstarter Exclusive content for sale at a later date, but we will not sell the exact same content you got as a Kickstarter Exclusive in another product.

What is Epic Thunderstone

Epic Thunderstone is a variation of Thunderstone that experienced players often enjoy playing.

Instead of a village with just four heroes and eight support cards, Epic uses all of the cards at your disposal, but only one copy of each.

In Epic your cards come randomly from select piles of cards in the village. Once you buy an available card you will be the only player in the game that has access to that card. It is quicker to set up and takedown, but a more challenging way to play the game for a less experienced player, as you have to adapt on the fly to what the village offers you.

Obviously some people like to play both ways. The difficulty has always been that taking one copy of each card out of your collection to play Epic - and then returning them when you want to play a more traditional set up is less than ideal. So, with this add-on we will provide you an additional copy of every card - each hero (and one for each level), each spell, item and weapon. There will also be one copy of each basic monster (there won’t be extra copies of cards that you do not need to be different for Epic, like treasures, basic cards, quests, Guardians and so on). You can store your Epic variant in your box and still enjoy playing traditional Thunderstone set-ups as well, without having to switch between the two.

With this add-on you’ll be able to play Thunderstone with different friends in different ways, depending on what each group prefers.

Full details on how to play Epic Thunderstone will be included in the rules.

Last updated: February 21, 2017 09:11

What are the dice for?

Some monsters have effects determined by die rolls and so do some treasures. They are a way to add options to the toolbox used by the developers.

Last updated: February 22, 2017 11:58

Will I have access to the Pledge Manager if I didn't select an Adventurer or Champion Reward?

No. You won’t be able to participate in the campaign unless you’ve chosen a Reward. At the end of the Kickstarter we’ll refund all the pledges that are not Adventurer or Champion pledges. If you want access to the Pledge Manager, please select one of the two Rewards during the campaign.

Last updated: February 23, 2017 09:15

Will the Champion Premium Box hold cards in sleeves?

Yes!

Last updated: March 17, 2017 11:38

Will you publish rules for solo play or co-op play?

We have had a lot of questions about co-op or solo play rules. Our developers have great ideas for these modes of play but they won’t start working on them until after work is finalized on the regular competitive rules. We don’t have an ETA on when we will have co-op or solo play rules ready but we’ll make them available as soon as they’re ready.

Last updated: February 23, 2017 12:59

Will you print more of Classic Thunderstone or Thunderstone Advance?

No.

In the natural evolution of a product line new editions are published and when they are production ceases on older products and Thunderstone is no different. We won’t be making any more of the previous sets or cards of the game and we’re focusing 100% of our effort on making Thunderstone Quest as good as we can make it!

Last updated: February 25, 2017 09:35

Does the Epic Add-On have cards for all Quests & Stretch Goals in the Campaign?

Yes. The Epic Thunderstone Add-On will include all the Quests in the Champion Reward, plus all the achieved Stretch Goal content.

Last updated: February 27, 2017 14:15

What is the Pledge Manager? Can I manage Add-Ons and multiple Rewards with it? Can I upgrade my Reward with it?

The Pledge Manager is a tool that we will use after the Kickstarter campaign has ended to finalize your order. You will be sent a link to the Pledge Manager via the email address you have registered with Kickstarter. The Pledge Manager will allow you to upgrade your pledge from Adventurer to Champion, select Add-Ons, and calculate shipping costs. You’ll be able to add additional Rewards to your order as well.

Last updated: February 27, 2017 15:37

What are the dimensions of the Premium Sleeves

The sleeves will be 66x91mm and will be manufactured from approx 0.1mm thick plastic.

They will fit Thunderstone Quest cards at 63x88mm and US standard size cards which are 63.5x88.9mm.

Last updated: March 22, 2017 15:45

Can you describe the Premium Box in more detail?

The box has not yet been designed (we have to wait to see how many Stretch Goals are unlocked in the Kickstarter first!)

It will be designed to hold all the contents of the Kickstarter, and then some. It will hold cards in sleeves. It will be designed to be a storage solution for Thunderstone Quest.

Last updated: March 22, 2017 10:27

What is the difference between the Premium Box and the regular box?

The regular box is just designed to hold the contents of the Adventurer pledge and it is not going to hold cards in sleeves. It may not have room for any additional cards or components.

Last updated: March 22, 2017 08:45

Exactly how many Premium Sleeves will be necessary to sleeve all the cards?

On the last day of the campaign we will generate a list of all the cards that need to be sleeved and give backers an exact total.

That list will indicate how many Sleeves are needed for the base cards, the Quests included in the Rewards, the stretch goals not included in the Quests in the Rewards, the Epic Add on, and anything else that we count as “sleevable”.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
